Homework Site The Weald
Much of this work will not be given feedback by teachers. The majority of homework will be assessed through low stakes tests of the knowledge and skills that students have revised, learned or practised. This will provide students with feedback on how effectively they are working. Where it is given feedback this might be verbal or whole-class feedback which students then act on to check and correct their work.

Students can expect to be given homework on a regular basis. Students at KS3 will be set homework less regularly than at KS4 and KS5 to reflect the timings below. Maths, English and Science will set more homework at KS3 than non-core subjects, with greater equity at KS4, to reflect curriculum time weighting. Homework will be recorded on the homework website.

We would like to thank you for your suggestions and comments about homework following the Welcome Evenings, Assessment Evenings and Parent Consultations which took place earlier in the year. You play a vital role in the learning process of your children and we value your support enormously. Children should not be expected to spend significantly longer on homework than the guide times below and, if you have any concerns relating to this, please speak to your class teacher as soon as possible.
Additional literacy homework can take several forms, depending upon the focus of the class. On occasions, phonic and word sheets will be sent home to support the spelling homework. Alternatively, in Year 2, reading comprehension practice may be sent home. Depending upon the topic focus, children may also be asked to carry out additional research, progressing to a project nearer the end of Year 2.
Numeracy homework is sent home to reinforce class learning and is differentiated according to the different needs of the children. In Year 2 the children will also begin to learn times tables more formally. Please encourage your child to practise these by rote and out of order. There will be a weekly times tables test to check learning. We would expect children in Key Stage 1 to spend no more than 20-30 minutes per week on maths homework.

We have a whole school approach on writing and are keen to extend writing opportunities for children at home as well. All the class topics are detailed on the school website and, if your child wishes to do any additional writing or research around their topic work, then this should be strongly encouraged.
On 15 October 2015, Nicky Morgan, the Education Secretary, announced that government would give permission for the school to create an "annexe" in Sevenoaks, which had no grammar schools.[3][4] The site for the 'annexe' is that of the former Wildernesse School on Seal Hollow Road, preparations started on the site soon after planning permission was granted in 2014.[5]

Parents are missing the opportunity to message teachers directly though class dojo. This functionality was introduced during lockdown and was very useful and popular. However when teachers returned to face to face teaching the added workload this direct messaging created was unmanageable, so we returned to messages being sent to teachers via the office. During lockdown we also introduced a parent2teacher email which we will now re-open so any messages from parents directly to teachers can be sent this way. The email is parent2teacher@st-andrews-northweald.essex.sch.uk . I have also added this to the marvellous me quick contacts list. This email will be checked daily and messages given to the appropriate teacher as quickly as possible.
Research shows that these are the activities that primary aged children benefit most from. We will ensure that the termly curriculum letters have other activities you could do with your child if you wish as extra homework.
